I Love You So Much!
Good Night
A dog, seeing you as if it had been a long time, even though it may have been, in fact, a short time
A cat, acting as if you are everything and nothing all at once, but needing you regardless of which is true
A sister, joining you in exploring and understanding your native culture—in both language and food
A mother, cooking her best, laughing her heartiest, complimenting, holding, and giving like only mothers can do
Gobez (good job)
Te’gebkhu (I am full)
A friend and her mother, healing and inviting others into the richness and warmth of their love through food and drink
A friend, texting you to seek counsel for the next steps in life, considering and respecting the weight of your words, making you proud at the strength and grace and healing of her journey
A friend, walking and drinking, with sass, sarcasm, sardonic wit, but perhaps loveliest of all, surreptitious sentimentality
A friend, helping me to move and store the remnants of a past life, discussing the hopes of a future life, enjoying the beauty of this current life. Who’s just as big a nerd as I am
A friend, walking from busy streets to quiet park, musing on music, ephemerality of moment, friendship, romance, the brittleness and strength of instruments, whether man or musical
Friends, old friends, reminiscing old memories and jokes, transforming old love into new marriage and young children, overcoming far distance and expanse of time
Missing home while you’re home, with a home, on the other side of the world, which is the big home, contained within the universal Big Home, and the ways and mystery of what that all means
A comet, streaking with intentioned path across a fiery sunset, silhouetted by shadow mountains, monuments to the earth’s indecisions and arguments with herself
All space and matter and time conspiring to make whatever this shit is possible
How much more can we love
More
The beat and the boom and the space between both deafening loud and deathly quiet
Music
Tea freshly made and incense freshly burned, laughter and crying and dancing and jubilation
The transcendence of time and space that is boba
I am so happy to know you
I am so grateful to be in this moment
Driving home, tear-blurred vision, heart bursting with desire and joy and grief and gratefulness
Parking at home, deep breath, peace
To the friends who are family, the family who are friends
And even to the family that are not
Thank you
I love you
To the woman
And the man
Who made me
I owe everything to you
Be proud of the life that you’ve nurtured
Look and rest and see that it is good
To the woman
Who will, if I would be so blessed, make with me
Love
Everyday
For the rest of our lives
Good Night
I Love You So Much!
